Proposal Summary

Changemakers at Work – Fund for Reno County – FY24 Adding seating to SW Bricktown Park where adults can supervise playing children will encourage more community members to use the park and thereby interact with each other.

Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date

It will be difficult to accurately measure how more seating in the park will affect park use.

Why Do You Think This Project Is Necessary?

We want to add benches to SW Bricktown Park, next to the playground and along the trail to allow community members to relax and supervise children in the park. Benches are needed because even outside of community events, there are times when the tables in the picnic shelter are all occupied. We will work with the Parks and Facilities Department at the City of Hutchinson to purchase and install four benches for the park.

Collaborative Partners

Since 2014, even before the neighborhood was named SW Bricktown, we have had meetings for neighborhood residents and community stakeholders. From the beginning, a park was identified as a need for the neighborhood, and we worked with partners including the City of Hutchinson, Hutch Rec, the United Way, and Hutchinson Community Foundation to develop a plan. Major improvements to SW Bricktown Park, formerly Ashmeade Park, began in 2018 with the construction of a playground and picnic shelter. Improvements have continued in the park, and the park receives good use by the neighborhood and community at-large.
