Proposal Summary
MCEID’s Leadership Literacy Library project is a one-time purchase of the books by Kansas Leadership Center for their leadership development materials. For each partnering library, we will be purchasing 5 English Editions of Your Leadership Edge, 1 Spanish Edition, 1 English Teacher’s Companion Edition, 5 English Editions of When Everyone Leads, 1 Spanish Edition, 1 Large Print Edition (a total of 13 books per library) and Your Leadership Edge in both English and Spanish for Kansas residents on the Libby app, the e-book reader for libraries.
Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date
I will check in with partnered libraries in 3, 6, 9, and 12, 24, & 36 months time to see how many times each book has been checked out/placed on hold (if applicable) and group book study attendance, we can also quantify how many groups are reserving the collection at the libraries for group study not organized by the library. The impact is ultimately restricted by awareness of the resource, but we’re hoping to see 720 (the number of people listed as served by this project) books checked out in three years time and would consider that a success. The frequency of check-ins will allow us to adapt our outreach to reach the 720 goal. The impact of 720 new people exercising leadership will hopefully be reflected at the next summit/benchmarking survey. Of course, the books will continue to be available at the libraries indefinitely, but MCEID does not plan on tracking impact past the next benchmarking summit.
Why Do You Think This Project Is Necessary?
During the Community Summit, the round table discussion I participated in identified the breakdown of communication as a barrier when coming together across income brackets. This improves when everyone is speaking the same leadership language, such as the one taught by Kansas Leadership Center. By supplying the public library with these resources, we are sustainably making leadership development accessible to lower income families and emerging community leaders. By targeting a group book study model, we’re inherently inspiring collaboration.
