Proposal Summary

Have you considered volunteering to make a difference in our community? Would you know where to look for volunteer opportunities? Our vision is to create a volunteer database to connect those who are interested in volunteering with organizations who need volunteers to accomplish their goals. As the informational hub of our community, the McPherson Chamber receives requests from businesses wanting to know how their team can help. We provide suggestions to individuals wanting to get involved, encourage new residents to connect with the community through volunteerism, and pick-your-passion is our motto for the Leadership McPherson graduates. Although we are thrilled to facilitate these connections, each conversation requires a lengthy search to provide accurate, and timely information. The volunteer database will be searchable by date, interests, and organization. This inclusive database will be the catalyst to connecting volunteers and opportunities for positive impact.

Community Impact & Accomplishments To-Date

We do not plan to be a portal for registering or having volunteers sign up on the website, rather an information hub of who to contact and how to contact them. Therefore, we would not be able to obtain concrete numbers of volunteers. We could, however, contact the organizations to get a pulse on increased volunteers. We would also be able to gather analytics on the visitors to the volunteer site.

Why Do You Think This Project Is Necessary?

Non-profit organizations struggle to accomplish their mission with limited volunteers. Is there a lack of those in our community willing to help, or are they just not aware of the opportunities? Where do organizations share their on-going needs, or their specific opportunities? We believe that our community is overflowing with caring individuals who want to help, they just need a resource to explore to find the best fit for their time, talents, and interests. Making these connections will be invaluable to the volunteer and the organizations, and it has the potential to make such a lasting impact on our community.

Collaborative Partners

We have communicated with our web designer Brian Lundberg on layout, timeframe, and cost. We reached out to Austin Regier and Shulah Neff about the need for a volunteer database and their opinions. They were both very enthusiastic and willing to help share the sign-up information with area agencies when it is completed. We have not had a conversation with United Way or the Ministerial Alliance but have a good relationship with both and feel confident that they would also be willing to assist in letting organizations know about sharing their volunteer opportunities on the database. We are also hopeful that MCCF would be a partner in getting the information to the non-profit organizations and future volunteers. • Steps to End Poverty- Austin Regier director@stepmc.org 620-241-9011 • ReUse It Center- Shulah Neff shulah.ruic@lrmutual.com 620-245-0122 • United Way of McPherson County- Anthony Roy uwmc@unitedwaymcpherson.org 620-241-5152 • Ministerial Alliance -David Case livefreemin@gmail.com 620-241-1371 • MCCF

We Need Help With

The portal should be helpful especially to those organizations that have lots of seasonal or temporary opportunities by allowing them to have a listing that can be removed after completion. It should also be helpful to High School students that are seeking National Honor Society recognition as this portal can help expand the number of opportunities they are aware of.

Accounts only need to be made by organizations looking to post a listing and those listings require a brief explanation of the job, time/date, and location. All posts are reviewed by the Chamber staff to prevent spam posting.
